News from Himanchal High School and Nangi Village, Nepal
Himanchal High School received $6,000 from Huguenin Rallapalli Foundation in San Francisco to support a health worker equivalent to Physician Assistant for Nangi Health Clinic. We hired Rabin Adhikari as Physician Assistant in February of this year. We have been unable to hire an MD yet. At present there are three staff at the clinic – Rabin Adhikari (paramedic), Saroj KC (Lab technician) and Lila Pun (Nurse).
The new school year started April 20. Students enrolled in a total of 108 (58 boys and 50 girls). This year 20 students in Grade 10 took the national level examination. The results will be available in 2 months. The school started advanced computer training classes for the Grade 10 students.
HEF Community Economic Development – Trekking Lodges
The number of tourists coming to Nangi and Mohare has increased this year. A total of 462 tourists visited since January 2023. The lodge in Nangi now can accommodate 30 tourists a day and Danda Lodge in Mohare can house 48 tourists. Additional lodging is needed in Nangi to improve and expand the tourist facilities
HEF 2023 Spring Golf Tournament
The 2023 HEF golf fundraiser tournament was held May 6th at Tara Hills golf in Papillion, Nebr with 23 golfers participating. Due to the planning and hard work of Netra, Resam, Ajay and Bhim the tournament was successful. The total raised was $2836. Sponsorships included Ajay the trophy, Resam beverages and snacks, and dinner by Rita Pizza. A big thank you to the planning committee and especially Netra Pokhrel, who coordinated and led the event.
