We are excited to share the progress and achievements made by the Himanchal Education Foundation (HEF) in supporting the Nangi High School, medical clinic, and economic development in the rural mountains near Nangi, Nepal. Your generosity has been instrumental in transforming lives and communities. Here’s a glimpse of what your support has accomplished and our ongoing efforts.
HEF Annual Golf Tournament
The HEF Golf Tournament, coordinated by Netra Pokhrel with help from Resham Thapa, Ajay Rai, and Bhim Rai, took place on May 18 at the Tara Hills Golf Course in Papillion, Nebraska.
With the help of our generous sponsors and 26 enthusiastic participants, the tournament raised $2,166 for HEF activities. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to this success!
Tourism and Infrastructure Development
In preparation for the upcoming tourist season, significant updates have been made to the tourist lodges in Nangi and Mohare. Additionally, Mahabir has been collaborating with the national power company to bring electricity to Mohare, addressing the insufficiency of the current solar panels. These improvements are crucial for boosting tourism and local economic development.
Health Services
The Nangi Health Clinic continues to operate smoothly, thanks to funding from the Rallapalli Foundation in California. The clinic, which provides essential medical services to the community, has secured the continued commitment of its primary medical caregiver (equivalent to a Physician Assistant) beyond the initial one-year term. This stability ensures that residents receive consistent and quality healthcare.
Educational Advancements
The HEF-sponsored Nangi school, which began its new term in April, has enrolled 110 students. This winter, various improvements were made to the school, enhancing the learning environment. This year, we are also expecting volunteers from Spain to contribute to our educational initiatives. The construction of the Summit View Recreational Facility is nearing completion, which will serve as a venue for both local and regional athletic competitions.
Memories, Dreams, and Perpetual Journey: An Autobiography by Mahabir Pun
Mahabir’s autobiography has been a remarkable success, with the first printing of 85,000 copies selling out quickly. An additional 35,000 copies have been printed, and to date, more than 100,000 copies have been sold. Plans are underway to translate and publish the autobiography in English, and we will keep our donors informed as soon as it becomes available.
Future Economic Development
Mahabir has proposed an exciting new initiative for economic development—funding kiwi and nut tree farms below Nangi. Despite the fertile soil, the area remains underutilized due to a declining birth rate and better employment opportunities elsewhere. Kiwi trees, which thrive at higher elevations, present a promising agricultural venture. This project aims to create sustainable economic opportunities for the local community.
